A few weeks ago, I chatted w BRIGHT STAR/GREAT COMET actor George Krissa in @thestar.com.

I couldn’t use everything we talked about. So here he is discussing his breakthrough roles, making Hallmark Channel history and hoping to play Bobby one day in “Company.”

Wrote a little more about the Stratford Festival's new artistic director — the good, the bad and the hiring committee that included zero artists for the top job in Canadian theatre.

My column is online now:

Why Jonathan Church’s hire could be a mixed bag for the Stratford Festival
New artistic director has family ties to Ontario and Mirvish credits, but minimal experience in Canada’s not-for-profit theatre sector

I really enjoyed @mirvish.bsky.social TELL TALE HARBOUR. It’s much broader and jokier than COME FROM AWAY, but still has a great big heart.

Review now up at @thestar.com.

www.thestar.com/entertainmen...
Alan Doyle’s ‘Tell Tale Harbour’ at Mirvish is not the next ‘Come From Away,’ but is still a charming, witty new Canadian musical
Inspired by the film “The Grand Seduction,” this musical blends humour and heart in a charming story about a small Maritime town fighting to stay alive.

Tell Tale Harbour's run in Toronto is almost sold out! This is a great sign for this amazing made-in-Canada musical
Fair winds have swept our seaworthy show and its merry cast of misfits off to distant shores and they've dropped anchor in Toronto.
Break a leg—we're so proud! 🥹
Tickets are selling VERY QUICKLY so if you're hoping to catch the show, don't wait ➡️ www.mirvish.com/shows/tell-t...

Very much enjoyed THE VEIL and ENORMITY, GIRL, AND THE EARTHQUAKE IN HER LUNGS (phew) at Crow's and 877 Yonge, respectively.

Two stellar new plays – and each frightening in their own way.

My twofer review is online now:

These two new plays in Toronto are terrifying (and brilliant) in their own ways
The Veil and Enormity, Girl, and the Earthquake in Her Lungs offer different takes on scary

In the Capitol Theatre’s new musical Rez Gas, songwriter Cale Crowe spins a comic tale of uneasy homecoming

“If it works in [the rehearsal] room and all these people believe in it, then we can take on the whole world," says Crowe.

There are some fine performances and great direction, but I simply could not get behind "Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812," now running @mirvish.bsky.social. #theaTO

Here's my minority report, for @thestar.com:
In this electro-pop opera retelling of Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace,’ the leads shine, but the emotions fall flat
There’s little emotional depth in Dave Malloy’s sprawling retelling of Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” But the leads in this Canadian company shine.
