Thanks - here’s one for you!

This particular tomato (Purple Pear) has a tendency to throw a lot of oddly shaped fruit - double or triple bodies are not uncommon.

This one cracked me up.

Is it a bunny? Or a longhorn steer? A proto-cephalopod? Does it just want a hug?

I’ve got two plants who are turning out head-sized tomatoes as well. (Kim’s Civil War Oxheart).

(I harvest at breaker stage to avoid losses to pests, including the two legged kind)

According to Elections Canada, if the intention is clear, a mis-spelling will be ok. Voters are given a candidate list.

The long ballot people could have done something amusing here…

In Tomato News, I picked a few pounds of tomatoes this afternoon. (At breaker stage, they will be a deep deep pink when fully ripe)

Two. I picked two tomatoes.

This is “Kim’s Civil War Oxheart”.

The largest is badly catfaced, so it won’t all be useable, but that’s still a pretty chonky tomato!

Timeline cleanse. Look at this enormous tomato from my garden. It’s a Kim’s Civil War Oxheart. I harvested it at “breaker stage” to avoid damage from pests (including thieving humans). Fully ripe it will be a deep pink. Haven’t tasted one yet, but looking forward to it!

Sunday #FlowerReport - buzzy bee edition

They start green, turn black from the shoulders down, but will stay a little green on the bottom until they hit breaker point and go orange ish and then rose.
August 3, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Fully ripe they are deep pink on the bottom and under the calyx.

Or is this that whole “I’m not saying they’re ableist, just that they are doing ableist things”?

Also a few pics of the garden entrance, and one from the side.

Warm rain this week has caused the garden to go berserk! Harvested garlic ahead of the rain this week, all heads were bigger than standard grocery store size, but some were massive (they will shrink as they cure). Had four onions starting to bolt so I harvested them as well.

Here’s a butterfly in my garden

Also - car flowers!

I started bringing a screw top container with water and a little plant food in it when I go to the garden. Lets me rest a bit when I get home before arranging them. Bonus is using the cup holder to bring them home!

Scabiosa, snapdragons, zinnias, strawflowers and sweet peas.

Pulled my garlic today, just before the rain. Was gonna wait another week, but some early signs of rust showed up in the last couple of days , so time to pull these beasts. Russian Red, pulled 18 heads.

Timeline cleanse. Lil harvest basket. Flowers (cornflowers, sweet peas, snapdragons, zinnias), mint, tarragon, celery, a handful of snap peas, some kohlrabi. Kinda wanted to pose with those like a dude with a fish 😂

My garden is my therapy. In the winter I can plan it while eating meals made with things I dried, canned and froze. In late winter and spring I can start seeds, and then comes all the transplanting and direct sowing and harvesting. And the preserving.

Another garden pic for @caramelrhapsody.bsky.social

This is most of my plot at about 1pm today.

In case you missed my post - these are the Chantilly snapdragons in my garden plot.

Thanks! Here’s one from a week ago

Sunday #FlowerReport from my garden - Chantilly Snapdragon edition.

With their wide open faces, this variety doesn’t look like the classic snapdragon I used to squeeze to make “talk” as a child. But what they lose in interactivity they gain in showy beauty!

Timeline pause.

Look at this stunning scabiosa i grew. You can see why its called pincushion flower!
June 13, 2025 at 2:17 AM
While later varieties will be much more flavourful, there is magic in the first locally grown, red-all-the-way-through strawberry.
