Migrating from that other site for the #MEDed, especially #POCUS
PulmCrit doc @PennMedicine, also Super interested in medical devices, global health, physics, philosophy, chess, and raising strong daughters in an unjust world.
Incredibly excited to have been a small part of the team working on this consensus document.

Hopefully this provides a framework for #internalmedicine docs working to create #POCUS curricula

I’m all in on POCUS expansion to RT and RN groups. Nothing specific to medical school that is necessary for specific Pocus applications relevant to one’s clinical practice.

Time for another #POCUS pitfalls thread: the infamous IVC 🤩

I have MANY thoughts on the IVC 💭

When I first started teaching POCUS, I actually disliked the IVC because it was often poorly done or incorrectly interpreted ❌

I have now come to love the IVC, BUT you have to do it right!

I really like this “how to” piece. Matches my practice and technique. That said, I find this much more useful in the post lung transplant / post surgical population than the general MICU crew for now…

We talked about #POCUS for paracentesis last week; so it seems appropriate today to talk about POCUS tips for #thoracentesis 🧵

This is another procedure that I can't believe used to be done blind! 🙈

This is my take too
I’ll put my neck out here: I’m an avid venous doppler user, I find it immensely useful, especially when vena cava is unrelible.
I never ever score VExUS though, I report individual components and my interpretation of them in the particular setting. #emimcc #pocus #echosky
For #POCUS #VExUS aspiring users:

1. VExUS can assess only the dark side of the moon: the venous side. A detailed hemodynamic assessment should look also at the 💙 itself (RV/LV function, pericardial effusion etc) & the lungs (B-lines? effusions?)

2. VexUS does not assess for volume responsiveness
