Had the amazing luck to find a melanistic Groundhog at work today! This animal is much darker than its usual counterparts, and is quite a rare find.

Went to Hampton Beach and observed a family of Piping Plovers, including this adorable chick!

I went up to northern Quebec this weekend and got to see my lifer Willow Ptarmigans! These birds of the arctic will occasionally irrupt far south enough that New Englanders can make the trip to see these amazing individuals. This year we were lucky enough to get a show of over 120 Ptarmigans!

Had a guest on my walk this afternoon; this Barred Owl was perched right in the middle of the trail!
