Are you aware of the Modern History TV YouTube channel? He does a lot of equestrian content. He had a video relatively recently about riding in mail breeches. He was actually a fan.

I would strongly suggest joining swordpeople.com and posing this question there. Much more Fiore specific knowledge there, as well as some equestrian expertise that isn't SCA specific.

And my absolute favorite, because it really hits home for me.

This is basically what I came here to say. If one shouldn't use tax money to buy junk, that should include government salaries. And we should get to scrutinize EVERYTHING that they buy to make sure our dollars are being spent wisely.
