It’s my birthday!

I’d like world peace, a functioning democracy, and to continue being a working writer!

So my big wish is that you BUY, BORROW OR BOOST one of my books today!

When the canary in the coal mine kicks, you don’t shrug, keep working, and put in an order on Amazon Prime for more vulnerable birds.

You get the fuck out of the mine, and work on fixing whatever the issue so that it’s safe for canaries.

"You can't moderate things for yourself the way WE don't like" sure is a different stance than this social network was advertised as.
Might be relevant to the interest of @gregdoucette.bsky.social & others.

Seems one or multiple people are still whipped up into a frenzy over a sex pest voice actor man. @safety.bsky.app seems to believe my "Vic stans" block list, used to protect from harassment, is actually the REAL harassment.

When we lived out in the country when I was a kid, my ability to venture beyond the property was limited by a two lane state road that was full of semis barrelling by at 70mph, and between supposed self-driving cars and jacked up pickups, even suburban subdivisions are like playing Frogger.

my mom taught me there's two kinds of businesses: hot dog stands and art galleries

- hot dog stands protect territory and keep competition off their turf
- art galleries benefit from more adjacent art galleries, cluster together to amplify reach/support

youre an art gallery, not a hot dog stand
Play and discuss as if you were friends trying to get to know each other better, rather than as if you were rival squawking merchants trying to sell competing goods in a marketplace. The world is full of friends and potential friends, and it's much lonelier and more frightening when it isn't.

This is so true. 99% of book bans have the intended effect: you never hear about those books again. The 1% of banned books that become infamous bestsellers elsewhere are not the norm.

You don't "not recall" telling DOJ lawyers to say "fuck you" to court orders. You either remember saying it, or you remember that you definitely didn't say it. Emil Bove saying he doesn't recall means he definitely said it, and there's a roomful of people that can testify to it.

🔥Heat is difficult to capture in an image — it’s not nearly as visible as other extreme weather events like hurricanes or tornadoes. Raising awareness about the dangers of extreme heat and protections against it in your reporting help people stay safe — and the images you choose matter. 🧵

For those who say “Illegal is illegal.”

On this Juneteenth, remember: slavery was once legal. Harboring a fugitive enslaved person? Illegal. Black freedom? Illegal. “Illegal is illegal” has always been used to defend injustice.

Legality ≠ morality. Justice calls us higher.

I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️

It's the one year book-iversary of Holding It Together, and I think its message is more urgent than ever. Because the book is about how the US came to rely on women as its safety net. But that story is fundamentally a story of what happens when billionaires don't want to pay their fair share. 1/
Other countries have safety nets. The US has women.

Their labor creates the illusion of a DIY society, making it seem like we don't need a net.

Writing HOLDING IT TOGETHER was a labor of love and fury and I'm so grateful to share it with you all #PubDay
