It's never a waste to get a therapist. Even if there's nothing horribly wrong, it's a valuable resource to have a 3rd party to speak to regularly for maintenance. Speaking from experience, even with a psych background, everyone has mental blind spots.

sometimes outside help just isn't around. Many fields of work have people working alone, socially or physically, for extended periods of time. In those fields it's that much more important for members to maintain regular wellness checks.

Mental health is arguably easier to degrade than physical health. Just as there is bacteria everywhere, there are things that can impact us mentally that can take tolls on us that we can't see until we suddenly realize we have the weight of the world on our shoulders.

Great article. The video game industry itself is just so weird. And yeah, I feel like the FGC is kinda unique. A lot of us, maybe a majority, have pretty strong feelings for the genre, and it leads to a disconnect when we face the fact that we really are a tiny community in video games overall.
