ICYMI: some very heavy hitters in pediatric infectious diseases just recently wrote up review of how to recognize and manage measles and prevent outbreaks.

Figure 4 Typical presentation of uncomplicated measles Fever • Starts 8-12 days after exposure • Can exceed 40°C • Lasts through first 2-3 days of rash Coryza • Starts 8-12 days after exposure • Improves as fever resolves Rash • Starts 14 days after exposure • Begins posterior to ears and hairline • Descends down the body • Maculopapular → confluent • Improves after 3-4 days • Total duration 6-7 days Conjunctivitis • Starts 8-12 days after exposure • Non-purulent • Can have significant photophobia • Lesions visible on slit-lamp exam • Improves as fever resolves Koplik spots • Start 9-11 days after exposure • Rapidly increase in first 12 hours • Last 2-3 days Cough • Starts 8-12 days after exposure • Can last >10 days • "Brassy" quality • Worsens until rash appears
