So I just finished @ars-synthetica.bsky.social's Steel Jaws Speak No Evil and I've seen people praise the writing and the Twine version's music but I haven't seen anyone talking about Part 3 specifically as a piece of interactive fiction, which I think is a disservice? It's really smart stuff!

So I just finished @ars-synthetica.bsky.social's Steel Jaws Speak No Evil and I've seen people praise the writing and the Twine version's music but I haven't seen anyone talking about Part 3 specifically as a piece of interactive fiction, which I think is a disservice? It's really smart stuff!
Watching a bunch of writers do a "convince you to read my thing using the first sentence!" meme and, with sincerely zero shade to any of them, I think what they illutstrate best is that first sentences ain't shit.

Nothing underscores my belief that Twitter-style social media values absolutely nothing except landing bon mots like the current leakthrough from Twitter valorising Oates. Never mind her *extensive* history of being a piece of shit on there, she did a dunk!!! Medals and victory lap!!!

It's fascinating when I see questions about "your main character" because over 90% of the time I go "lol which one" but every so often my mind rubberbands *instantly* to some particular work of mine.

I basically only write tweet-length microfic if I have no intention of writing that thing in any longer form, which gets frustrating when I'm in a Writing Is Hard doldrum and I have An Idea which I *could* do tweet-length, but kinda want to find a way to make work as a longer piece

I wouldn't judge anyone for wanting loud and colourful Super Robot shows aimed at preteens if they'd just! stop! going! "nice queer horror literature genre! have you considered making it more loud, colourful, Super Robot, and an animated show for preteens?"

Basically, an awful lot of people pretend to engage — or sometimes, apparently sincerely believe they have engaged — with mechsploitation as a genre, and the second they open their mouth it turns out their media literacy per se is that of a Disney adult with added weeb orientalism

I'm all for a diverse exploration, but there's a fringe of people-who've-heard-of-mechsplo who keep coming up with the take "haha what if, right, there was a pilot, and they were, get this, they were HORNY for being made into a hound, and all the handlers were like ick no not if you LIKE it"

Oh, someone on a fediverse server presumably liked (exactly) one of my stories enough to post a link to it, from the way the server logs suddenly contain fucking shitloads of masto bots hitting that one page to generate page preview cards.

Oh, someone on a fediverse server presumably liked (exactly) one of my stories enough to post a link to it, from the way the server logs suddenly contain fucking shitloads of masto bots hitting that one page to generate page preview cards.
