GoG has done a great job of providing a substantially different and valuable service. They're no steam but there's a good reason to go to GoG for a variety of reasons. Epic has literally nothing to offer.
The only reason why steam is a “pseudo monopoly” is because no one else has found a winning formula like they have. And also the one guy who wants to compete is too busy being the most unlikable person on the planet.

Steam being a pseudo monopoly is complicated. It's obviously got downsides, but the AI disclosure requirement makes it so realistically everything releasing on PC has to disclose or risk getting banned right off the PC platform forever and it's the only way we'd find out about some of this shit.

So AI at industry level is, in fact, risking making art something only 'the elite' can enjoy.
