The now Grade II listed headstone of railway fireman Edward Booth is a reminder of the tragic Ulleskelf accident which occurred OTD 24 November in 1906 when in fog, the train on which he was working missed a red signal and crashed into a coal train killing himself and the driver.

1/3 After attending Lambeth School of Art, Hannah Barlow was the first woman employed by Doulton & Co, #Lambeth in 1871 to paint their ceramics. She was joined a few years later by sister Florence - Hannah’s designs featured animals while Florence painted birds and flowers.

Hello from (the oracle of) Delphi. Never thought I’d get to go to Greece (given my husband’s bias for Roman ruins) and it’s marvellous

Love this! My Nana had a fuchsia nursery in Cornwall and I have fond memories of taking fuchsia cuttings with her in the greenhouses
'Greenhouse Interior,' (c1935) shows Stanley Spencer's common practice at the time of this painting; a closely observed and highly detailed flower painting, in this case fuchsias, against a receding background.

History curious? You don't need to be in London (or the UK) to attend many Institute of Historical Research seminars, although if you're in Bloomsbury you'll enjoy doing so. Most are hybrid (online/in person). They're free, usually fortnightly and open to the public.

"For... interesting holidays".

Something about the spookily lit trees in the foreground makes this feel like the kind of poster you'd catch sight of on a mildewed wall in the early minutes of an MR James adaptation.

Long shot: any1 ever come across a #Laight family in #NewYork in the 1820s, with ties to #Haiti?

Tiny info I have: father=Henry, daughter=Maria. She's not a native writer of French, requests orange jams (!) from Modeste Pigeon in Port-au-P., is v. religious.
