Buying a villa in Veldhoven? Yeah, you might have to compete against a foreign buyer who works for ASML.

But your daughter can’t afford a flat in Woerden? That’s the fault of national housing policy and cuts to social housing and tax regimes and NIMBYs - not expats.

This is the act an authoritarian regime, not one interested in the rule of law.
His student visa was suddenly revoked but he wasn’t notified—“they don’t want ICE to lose the advantage of surprise” (!!!)—and four days later he was arrested at the hospital where he works.
Indonesian man details surprise ICE arrest in Minnesota hospital
Critics condemn the “silent” nature of his arrest as part of an aggressive new trend in immigration enforcement.

if you're in the UK and have an outdoor cat (like most UK cats), I would be seriously thinking about switching them to an inside cat given the bird flu situation; there's already been dozens of US cat cases (where outdoor cats are much rarer but bird flu growing) and UK bird flu cases are rising

It’s getting some attention now but I’m not sure your average news watcher knows exactly what is unfolding in global health around the world now. It’s a catastrophe, of a really unprecedented kind, which could well kill hundreds of thousands of people

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order.
TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

I don't want to scare you into paralysis. But you need to understand we have been here before and you need to understand what's at stake.

*Act* fucking accordingly.

Also, I don't blame our loss on "DEI firefighters" or space lasers or antifa or Gavin Newsom or wokeness not allowing forest floors to be raked. There's no cartoon villain here. This was a catastrophic wind storm that caused bone dry vegetation to ignite. It's climate change.

I used to think that when global warming truly began to bite, deniers would face reality & we could act. Now I think it's more likely it will lead to a kind of fascism that will respond to global warming by, like, executing everyone who says global warming is real.

VVD/NSC last week: we can happily send refugees back to the safe haven of Syria, where they can live under Assad in prosperous bourgeois domesticity

VVD/NSC this week: so thankful that the vicious dictator Assad has fallen, ending his nightmarish reign of terror and making Syria safe for refugees

Dutch politicians often seem to think they operate in a tiny sphere, where only a few million Dutch-speaking voters can hear them.
But the rest of the world does actually see this stuff going on. They note the tone of the debate, and where it’s going. And they make investment decisions accordingly.

If you don’t understand why disabled ppl are speaking out against assisted dying - or why they’re scared it could be used against them - please read these articles

We are often first to be discarded. Left to die, slapped with DNRs & neglected

When society doesn’t value us - how can we feel safe?
For more on this - here’s the article on Dominic Cummings white board while discussing pandemic response: www.bbc.com/news/health-...

And an article about DNRs being placed - without consent - on those with learning disabilities: www.theguardian.com/world/2021/f...
Dominic Cummings: What was on his whiteboard?
The notes reveal a scramble to decide the country's pandemic response ahead of the first lockdown.

Anyone who tells me that disabled people aren't being coerced or pressured into MAID need to read Normand Meunier's experience because something as simple as a damn mattress would have prevented him choosing MAID.

AID (as in care and help) before MAID.
Another horrifying example of neglect leading to assisted dying:

Normand Meunier (a quadriplegic) developed bedsores after being left FOUR days on ER gurney. He wasn’t turned & his pleas for a specialized mattress were ignored.

He decided he didn’t want to “be a burden”

Oh, so are we in Europe going to have a big war? Is global climate change not a big enough challenge? Are we really in competition to see who can collapse our civilization and environment the fastest?

Been thinking about how to resist digital enshittification and erasure.

One thing I plan to do in my own capacity is buy physical records and CDs of my favorite artists.

Take and develop more actual photos and keep photo albums.

And yes, write down our stories and family histories.

Fair contracts and decent pay for authors.
No AI training without the creator’s consent.
Artists and translators on the cover.
No NDAs for ghostwriters.
