Great news! The govt will finally introduce local content rules for streaming platforms. This is a huge win for Aussie stories, jobs and our screen industry. Proud to have stood alongside actors, creators and so many others who helped push for this outcome. It’s a great day for Australian stories.

The govt promised local content quotas for streamers back in 2019 – but 55,000 Aussie screen industry jobs are still at risk. France, Italy and others have acted. Why hasn’t Australia? Sign the petition to #MakeItAustralian and #SaveAustralianStories

The flotilla represents the best of humanity—ordinary people stepping forward where governments have failed. The Labor government must break its silence and publicly support and protect this humanitarian mission.

Since 2022, Australia’s screen industry has shrunk by 60%. Streamers make $4B here, pay less than 1% tax, and invest little in local stories. I’ve launched a petition urging the govt to mandate investment in Aussie content by 30 June 2026.

The Coalition is choosing to ignore its own history. Labor isn’t brave enough to push back. And now we’re having an immigration discussion that is AT THE BEHEST OF LITERAL NAZIS. FFS

Here we are. Trapped between those who flirt with far-right ideologies for political gain and those unwilling to make the stand it demands.

The little Meanjin collection that I helped bring into the world as editor. Just a fragment of its 85-year catalogue. What an act of bone-stupid arrogance to kill it.

Wow! Bendigo Writers Festival (15 - 17 Aug) is making guest speakers sign a last-minute agreement to not mention Israel's genocide of Palestinians. Writers who care about human rights are cancelling. Any writer/guest still thinking of appearing should seriously reconsider. Stand up! Refuse to comply

The war in Gaza has killed 186 journalists as of Aug 11, 2025. This is the highest number ever recorded in any war. 🚨

It is more than the total journalists killed in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, the Yugoslav Wars, and Afghanistan combined. ⚖️📸💔

I discussed the conflict in Iran on ABC radio yesterday. Possibility of a ceasefire is obviously a good sign of de-escalation. But the Aus Gov’t prioritising our relationship with US over international law is deeply worrying. #politas #auspol

Really fucking disgusting reporting on the Gaza genocide by the ABC this morning. Endless shit about Hamas and hostages. Barely congruent with the reality of this slaughter and the fact Israel was always going to (again, again, again) conquer more territory and ethnically wipe Palestine.

Outside the ABC, a vigil mourns the murders of more than 200 journalists in Gaza, the stories of their final moments told in a way an ABC broadcast never could. A security guard and someone from the MSO quietly expressed solidarity. Journalists leaving the building just tried to avoid eye contact.
