Michele Hayeur Smith's book on Scandinavian textiles in the North Atlantic is an amazing study in the application of feminist archaeology to an underappreciated aspect of history.

I finished Madhouse at the End of the Earth is true adventure story filled with warnings about nationalism and personal ambition with dark shades of isolation and survival horror. Woven from multiple first-hand accounts and primary sources it's an excellent winter read.
