As we enter fall, it's so important that we tell everyone to leave those leaves! Mads Torres designed a poster to help us.

Lightning bugs are one of the most charismatic insects we've got. Actions we take to protect them protects many insects!

One unexpected side-effect of being in the Starcruiser fan community and also being bad at remembering names and faces is that I spend a lot more time smiling at people in the Disney Parks just in case they're people I know

I was going to do laundry, but instead I read this beautiful novelette by Cameron Reed.

These are strange times we live in, when a dystopian science fiction world can be filled with so much hope.

I'm having one of those days/lifetimes where I can't tell if something is
1) funny
2) funny only to me
or
3) funny only to me and outright unsettling/unnerving to others

I can accept "others might not find it funny" because people have different senses of humour, but I don't want people to worry.

When you see the words “the clearest photo ever taken of [planet, moon, etc.]” RUN AWAY!

These accounts suck because they often don’t credit properly, many don’t use alt txt, share misinformation, are anonymous with unknown credentials, and are not here to teach you science but to engagement farm.
It’s probably best to stop following / sharing content from this account when it clearly does not care for any form of proper attribution and has the science *very* wrong. 🔭

FINE: TL;DR 🦑🧪🌎

Plastic pollution is a problem.

People should use less plastic when they can

Straws became a culture-war flashpoint and are not the biggest source of plastic pollution.

Everyone talks about this, especially solutions, wrong.

Some people absolutely need plastic straws.

More: 🧵
You People are gonna make me do my “as an ocean conservation scientist, you’re thinking about plastic straws wrong” rant again, aren’t you?

6) The way to fix ocean plastic pollution is to stop it from getting into the ocean in the first place. This means reforms to manufacturing and waste disposal processes.

Once plastic is in the ocean, we cannot get it out without killing marine life. People claiming otherwise are liars.

Please use alt text to the best of your ability.

Don’t worry about doing it “wrong.” You’ll get better & faster at it the more you practice. And a half-assed attempt is better than nothing! 💖

Alt text isn’t just for low/no vision folks using screen readers.

When written accurately, alt text also helps filter out potentially triggering images for everyone.

Game Store Manager here... That's a swing and a miss from them. The folks who follow BGs already know about Finspan. They probably already know if it's for them. There's a HUGE opportunity for cross promotion outside of established gamers with a title like this, imho it's the only reason it exists.

How to find Feeds on your phone in Bluesky: There's the Crochet and Knitting feed, showing posts with the 🧶 emoji. There's also a Craftiverse feed which captures more than just yarn crafts. Search Feeds (the 3-line menu top left - phone/ #Feeds in the left menu - desktop). Search for your interests!
For reference, here's how pinned feeds look on my phone. There's the Following tab, then Crochet & Knitting, then the Please Clap feed. I just swipe to go back and forth.

This, sadly, is absolutely true, generates self-censoring among librarians, publishers, authors. Anticipatory compliance is a thing. Part of same idea that makes doctors fearful of legal consequences for some procedures now.
The authors of those books are less likely to get future contracts if they can’t sell to the library market (it’s BIG) or book author visits at schools and libraries (a key part of most children’s authors’ income). This is how voices are silenced.

This show at Jollywood Nights at Disney's Hollywood Studios is officially called Holidays in Hollywood, but I am heartened by the number of people referring to it as the Muppet show.

Sure, Mickey and Minnie and Tiana and Belle are in the show, but everyone's really here for Kermit and Miss Piggy.

I propose a new term: SINE. Site-specific Immersive Narrative Experiences— storytelling with narrative directly tied to/shaped by the physical location.

The term "immersive experience" is too vague and seems to be a term put on everything from Malls to VR.
