i was motivated by studying G-matrix evolution , and found drift tends to drive trait correlations to their extremes despite commonly held wisdom that drift merely tends to scale G-matrices !!

We hope this paper provides a useful framework for the analysis of microbiome mediated traits, and to help uncover the interplay between microbiomes and long-term evolutionary processes!!

All feedback is appreciated! :)

Combining our framework with a simulation model of microbial inheritance, we found that the microbiome components that facilitate a response to selection depend on the shared life-history of host and microbe!

Microbiomes are crucial in shaping host traits and fitness. But how do they influence evolution? To tackle this, we introduce a scheme to partition host microbiomes into components relevant for predicting a response to selection ("lineal", "non-lineal", "external", see image) 2/n
