Purple Finch or a House Finch?

The Belted Kingfisher is one of the few where the female (shown here) is more brightly colored than the male! Males sport a single blue band across their white chest & females boast both a blue & a chestnut band. You'll often hear their loud, rattling call before you see them.#birds #kingfisher

Last week, I posted a photo of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Now it’s time to meet the Golden-crowned Kinglet! Surviving Northern winters is no small feat when you are as tiny as this Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Its ability to move nonstop, paired with a fast metabolism, helps it stay warm during freezing temps. Despite its name, you’ll rarely see its ruby “crown” unless the kinglet gets excited.
