I don't know about all large or small cells, but for Stentor, I always show a video in class of one getting half-eaten by an amoeba. The half that gets pinched off just swims happily away. I have another one where I accidentally co-cultured some big ciliate and I ended up selecting for some multicellular algae. I think the ciliate either pressured them to create floating blobs or just ate up all the unielcellular algae so the other stuff took over.
