Left Hand of Darkness has this too right? I wonder which was written first.

Democratic leadership agrees with you! And we’ve certainly seen their big rounds of success recently.
November 11, 2025 at 6:58 PM
Dems will definitely lose Congressional seats because of the actions and temperament of their leaders, this shutdown included, but it won’t look like one single cause and effect. It will look like the downward Dem slide we’ve seen for years.
November 11, 2025 at 4:57 PM
The Democrats in Congress are, for years now, some of the most unpopular politicians imaginable. This is because of how they are ineffectual, weak elitists — voters know they’re not fighting for them. As a result, enthusiasm is undermined and Dems only vote anti-GOP, not pro-Dem.
November 11, 2025 at 4:56 PM
And when Democratic leaders cave over and over, voters definitely get a broad sense of what that is and what it means, even if the details get jumbled at best.
November 11, 2025 at 7:11 AM
None of us mad about it today forgot it happened six months ago.

Well also remember in January when this could happen again.

Certainly the average voter has very little knowledge about all this. That being said, I do think they have a vague but real sense of whether Democrats are fighters.

Character IS a big issue in this country

Okay, that sounds good. “Much” is a good qualifier which is consistent with what Katelyn said, and again I don’t think you’re responsible for others’ actions. But the right response to Katelyn pointing out when it did happen would be regret not deflection.
November 10, 2025 at 9:47 PM
I don’t think you’re responsible for everything your followers do, but come on - this isn’t a good look.
November 10, 2025 at 9:42 PM
I have no idea if Cait is a bully or not but let me just say that scrolling up this thread doesn’t look good for you. You say your followers are never abusive, Katelyn says they have been, you say she’s lying, she explains the circumstances, you ignore her response.

Stop making excuses for Dem failure. The Dems absolutely could have achieved a positive result — the GOP had two and only two options, both of which are good for Dems (restored ACA funds, end of filibuster). Dems failed because they are either bad at planning or too weak to fight, or both.

End of the filibuster

The longer someone has been in the Senate, the more suspicious we should all be. Partly because that means they became elected in the pre-Trump era, and partly because whatever fight they had will have been sanded away. I’ve liked Booker in the past but he’s just not cut out for the fight ahead.

You might like The Tree of Life (philosophical transcendence within the grime of everyday life), Pi (kabalistic arcana - madness or deeper truth?), or Mulholland Drive (a dissection of the American Dream, told through dreams).

What do you like in art? Escapism, beauty, humor, emotional catharsis, a challenge to your ideas, physical thrills?

On the other side of things, this guy is very bewildering for many American Jews to learn about.

I don’t think anyone actually thinks it would become majoritarian. They just use that argument to protect their reactionary policy preferences, because they no defending the policy on policy grounds would lose every time.
November 8, 2025 at 10:31 PM
It was obvious from the start that popularists would abandon the people on every time the people disagree with their specific policy preferences, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

Sounds like he hates core America values, such as having the right to speak out against the people in power. So maybe he should deport himself?

I’m always surprised by how incompetent the right is at basic tasks such as logical thinking. They truly aren’t sending their best.

The appeal is the domination and the cruelty, not any sort of economic, geopolitical, or social success….

Someone whispered in his ear that insurance companies are a good target for Republicans on this issue, and the ACA includes payments to insurers, therefore it would be good politics to redirect those funds to people.

Needless to say, the amount of understanding he has about all this is zero.

The deaths from cars come not from the cars malfunctioning but people malfunctioning.

Certainly, we don’t have proper accountability for people who commit car-related crimes, but that’s a different issue.
November 8, 2025 at 4:30 AM
I definitely support banning cars from many spaces, but this isn’t a good comparison. The difference is that cars don’t malfunction and kill people frequently; if they do malfunction, there immediately are mandatory recalls.

Like imagine if a company sold an oven that a few times a year exploded, killing people in the kitchen.

We would immediately ban the product from the marketplace. This is very straightforward and uncontroversial.

The same should happen with LLM products.
