The ripe, sunset orange fruit taste incredibly sweet almost like a caramel flavor

This is my probably favorite fruit. Not just out of native fruits but favorite fruit in general. A ripe persimmon really is that good!

American persimmon
(Diospyros virginiana)

The anglicized word "Persimmon" derives from Algonquin dialects: putchamin, pasiminan, or pessamin, which all means dried fruit - since the nutritious dried Persimmon is a valuable winter food source.

Very long harvest season as fruit ripen Sept-December

I had strict parents growing up. When they felt like the were losing control, they’d put the clamps down on me. Each time I’d get more sneaky and eventually I got so good they didn’t know what I was up to ever. We didn’t have much of a relationship and I didn’t trust them with anything. I still dont

My favorite fruit might be
american persimmons
(diospyros virginiana)

Unbelievably sweet, caramel flavor
when fully ripe (completely soft)
v astringent if unripe
Ripe Sept-December

Blocky bark and thick leaves

eating leaves, scared of me,
stewing in their own shit

Check out these milkweed bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus)
nymphs on a swamp milkweed
(Asclepias incarnata)!

They eat the milkweed seeds,
using it’s toxicity for defense
and they huddle together
to look like a bunch of seeds
camouflaged from predators

Adults will overwinter
and reemerge in the spring

These.

It’d have to be these.

SW Ohios full of pawpaws too. Shawnee Lookout, the park on the valley ridge where the Great Miami and Ohio rivers meet, is full of pawpaws, persimmon, honey locust, hickories, spicebush. Earthworks throughout and food everywhere. My favorite place to go in September

Get outside ✅
Eat vegetables ✅

This is evening primrose
(Oenothera biennis)

And the entire plant is edible raw
(Seeds, roots, shoots, buds, flowers, pods)

A native plant that blooms at night, will grow in almost any condition and hummingbirds/goldfinches love it

I’ve visited DC a couple times, checked out the city and some monuments

(image is from the weird white savior mural inside the Lincoln monument),

and I can honestly say that I didn’t feel safe there.

Not because of Black people,

but because I felt like I was being surveilled the entire time

Cincinnati police depts love to protect racists and hate speech. They help them! Assets to neonazis and the klan (& ruling class). Hell they are neonazis. They abuse and murder Black people in communities that they don’t even live in. They get paid to do it. By design they see zero accountability
August 6, 2025 at 3:08 PM
I didn’t post about this because I was trying to protect the just Cincinnati residents that stuck up for themselves in the face of racist abuse because I heard how the media was covering it. Now that I know the police targeted only Black ppl and not the racist whites hate speech and initial assault…

For everyone concerned with our climate and ecosystems, consider supporting native plant agriculture products when you come across them!

Our agricultural systems destroys our climate and ecosystems like nothing else.

There’s a tree frog on my roof! I live within city limits surrounded by European turf grass lawns. This tiny but mighty ecosystem filled with edible/medicinal native plants is healthy enough to have upland amphibians. So encouraging and validating to see how much life this small space supports
