On this day in 1865, the ratification of the 13th Amendment formally ended slavery in the United States. We can never forget this shameful chapter of American history and we must be unyielding in the fight for equality that continues to this day.

Supporting surviving families and disabled veterans is non-negotiable, but doing so on the backs of other disabled veterans is a nonstarter. Let’s come together to find a better way to fund these much-needed benefits – like making billionaires pay their fair share.

ICYMI: I sent a letter to the management of Sangamon Towers in Springfield demanding they take action to address the unsafe and unsanitary conditions in the apartment building. I will keep fighting until these issues are resolved for residents.

Today is World AIDS Day, where we come together to raise awareness and honor those we’ve lost to this disease. As a nation, we cannot turn our back on our partners working to save lives and end HIV/AIDS once and for all.
