Truly, you never know what you'll come across in an archival collection. Today, that meant holding a letter from a Japanese woman who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as a child. Not what I was expecting in foreign correspondences to Mayor Raymond Tucker, but welcome nevertheless.

Not Raymond Tucker slighting Congresswoman Leonor K. Sullivan by failing to use her honorific. "Since all other Members of Congress are listed as 'Hon.', I would appreciate it if in any future printing of the list you identify me as 'Hon. Leonor K. (Mrs. John B.) Sullivan..."

I know that nobody enjoys food posts but I've gotta say, this white wine poached chicken on a bed of mashed mirepoix potatoes was phenomenal. Sure, it looks like vomit, but it tasted absolutely gorgeous.

Who did it better?
Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced CEO of Theranos, with her nanotainer?
Or me, no one of particular note, with the bastard nail that embedded and hid itself in my tire?
You decide, America.

I'm out here representing Missouri and the Midwest as I begin week 7 of this relief operation for the May 16th tornadoes. Maybe we should start saying sleeves DOWN, hearts open 😬😵💫

Before I head back to my Red Cross post, I wanted to share three of the Ten Commitments of the @americanhumanist.bsky.social Association. Perhaps they will bring you the grounding they continue to bring me as we navigate this disaster.

From bib to babe*. Got a field promotion to Acting Shelter Manager at our main Red Cross shelter here in STL, so I finally got my vest! Got to meet Batman, too. The community response has been nothing short of incredible; that's how we do in the Lou.
*Babe not included. Sunburn very much included.

I'm sorry everyone else, but I have the most beautiful cat in St. Louis. Just look at her! Her only drawback is that she doesn't like to be picked up, and thus misses out on hugs and smell tours.

Was explaining the Classical Greek roots of the word epiglottitis, because I live to bore my husband, and thought I'd share the 1960s Classical Greek mice prepositions illustration by seminarian Don Pfaffe. If only because it's so cute, and you all deserve to see it!
