Check out @lamhine.bsky.social’s poster 749 showing multiracial Americans are the racial group with the SECOND highest prevalence of subjective cognitive decline 🤯 Much more research needed in this understudied population (that Tracy and I happen to be a part of) #AAIC2025

Hearing from trial participants and how much the lifestyle changes have changed their lives is incredible: “a new lease on life” We always need to hear from the participants!

“I did lose something. I lost the title of prediabetic. And 11 inches off my waistline.” 👏👏

US POINTER study showed a significant improvement in global cognition for a structured intervention (physical, social, and cognitive activities, MIND diet, health monitoring) compared to self-guided intervention equivalent to 1-2 years of aging #AAIC2025. Evidence that behavior change can work

Come check out #AAIC2025 Poster 807! Work from my R01 with Melinda Power, led by Yi Chen on the association of different neuropathologies with a timely diagnosis of dementia in healthcare settings. Medicare claims linked to @rushalzheimers.bsky.social cohort data

Really appreciate the #AAIC2025 plenary starting with @alzassociation.bsky.social CEO Joanne Pike saying about the US government’s dramatic cutting of research funds: “We share your outrage”.

Excited to be in Toronto for #AAIC2025! Tough days for scientific research lately but we soldier on to make advancements in preventing and treating Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias #endalz

Thank you to all who checked in—Cora was at another camp on a hill above the Guadalupe that was spared the horrible flood. All the girls are safe. But the camp has damage and no power and had to evacuate. My girl is safe with family and we are going down to TX soon ♥️ My heart breaks for Camp Mystic

We had a truly illuminating and sincere #SER2025 discussion on navigating DEI restrictions on our epidemiology research. Thank you to this all-star panel and the great comments from the audience! Time to pick up the sword ⚔️

Multiracial persons may face unique experiences of discrimination and other stressors that could lead to this higher prevalence. More work needed in this understudied group!

As a multiracial person myself (along with Tracy), I find this finding fascinating and a bit scary: multiracial older adults have second highest prevalence of dementia! Higher than Black and Hispanic OAs who are known to have elevated risk
June 12, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Was great to see @lamhine.bsky.social present his research on the prevalence of subjective cognitive decline in multiracial older US adults at #SER2025 Proud to play a small part in supporting Tracy’s important work with @michelleodden.bsky.social

Finally, I really appreciated this anecdote to show the power of personal narrative in communication: @gretchentg.bsky.social’s most viral tweet was showing the behind the scenes while talking to CNN during the pandemic 😂 Real talk! And one that many people related to. Led to an even larger platform

I love this quote from Aristotle on how to be courageous. You have to know what to fear and when it is smart to toe the line vs when it is the right time to be bold. It is a fine line that we scientists are walking in order to defend science but not draw targets on our back. It’s time to be brave.
June 12, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Step 5. Find the wins. It’s not all doom and gloom—science is making inroads. Amplify the good that comes from this
June 12, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Step 4. Push the lawmakers. We scientists have to get involved and engage congress and local government
June 12, 2025 at 2:30 PM
Step 3. Unite the community. An aligned message and coordinated response instead of small factions or scientists with tiny platforms
June 12, 2025 at 2:28 PM
Step 2. Hold the line. Go on offense and defense. Be active
June 12, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Step 1. Drive the narrative. I had to ask the question on how to do this when it is easier to spread misinformation than scientifically valid info. Answer: don’t be afraid to use personal narratives to connect, and remember the timeline is short—keep the message brief!
