Jimmy's dad was a minister in the north of Scotland, meaning he was likely to be Church of Scotland or Free Church of Scotland (their home looked a lot like a manse, suggesting CoS). A protestant minister would have a cross rather than a crucifix.

By 1999 he wasn't on children's tv by that time he'd moved to late night and the occasional Top of the Pops. A friend did point out he had a cottage in the North of Scotland but I wonder how much of an impression he'd make on a young child.
