SCOTUS: We've decided in a 6-3 ruling that eating babies is perfectly okay for the President. Not "eating babies is decided on a state by state ruling based on a 1903 precedent you thought we were going to cite," he just CAN.

But if JRRT comes across as a mix, Gygax comes across as SUPERBLY SELF CONFIDENT. So racism and sexism went right into D&D like his fixation on polearms, or completely inaccurate takes on some armor and weapons. Which means we should question it, since he would never have questioned it himself. 3/3

multiculturalism is a strength, The Last Battle had people from all "races" on BOTH sides, Easterlings and even orcs are potentially okay people who happened to wind up on the wrong side of the war, he does put in an attempt to make women active characters, and Tolkien loathed the Nazis' racism. 2/3

There's a certain morbid humor to the idea that this regime's abuses, killing and harming people right now in real time, might end because of its chief instigator's past actions.

something something sail a ship of dead mens' nails into Asgard and burn the damn place to the ground so that maybe the next world can be just and kind for a change?

let me guess, you can't actually discharge the electricity as a weapon, it just makes your lower back feel better or something?

Watched and thanks! I mean, it's D&D and with all the serious discussion and misgivings, I like the sheer goofiness the game inherently holds.

the game-y convenience of legions of monsters defined by physiology as much as by culture winds up creating legions of monsters and like you know, what I like about D&D is a huge variety of monsters.

I can do angry heeb ranting later; this is the most D&D-related chunk of things. 5/5

Some of my mixed feelings are that while I actually have never felt comfy with D&D's "we kick in the door, stab them and steal their stuff because they're EVIL" (and feel like "we stab them and steal their stuff because it's MONEY" is true to pulp roots and works with D&D as diverse society) 4/5

Alignment in particular "reads" as a wargaming holdover (as the evil player, my forces can have gnolls, goblins, AND neutral wyverns etc). Distinctly prejudiced assumptions have persisted this long because an artificial sorting method can be CONVENIENT, which uh, isn't exactly stellar ethically. 3/5

doesn't fit with Conan/Fafhrd and Grey Mouser/etc where everyone's people just trying to survive.

This gets further complicated by making it a game; it's utilitarian, not enlightened or realistic, to have Race A as a good option to play a front line fighter, Race B as an option for wizards etc. 2/5

Sure, please do share! If it actually somehow bugs me I'll stop watching.

Hope everyone manages to get through as okay as they really can.

I guess it DOES make sense, since the classic Betty Boop format is ghosts and weird shit pops out at Betty for no particularly explained reason, and classic WtA is all about fomori and weird shit popping out at Garou for no particularly explained reason.

wait... making Betty Boop from a dog into another dog seems kinda weird somehow.
