@robwords.bsky.social I live near a place called Pode Hole, essentially a place built to house fen drainage engines.

"Pode" is said locally to mean "Toad". But I can't find any other instance .

Now I hear the Dutch for Toad is Pad. Can you throw any light on this?

This one is Demis Hassabis, whose life history is fascinating.

This sort of nonsense makes me so angry.

Some years ago I christened our current cultural era "the Unenligtenment". This was in my Google news feed, curated off the things it thinks I am interested in from the links I have followed.

I keep hearing, from #PaulThurrot in particular, how astonishingly good #Copilot is for software - but every time I try it it makes stuff up. Here is today's little gem

You were talking about egg prices. In the UK we have had 4 years of bird flu precautions, and egg prices have been more or less stable. I can buy eggs from a roadside honesty box for £1.20 for half a dozen, and retailers are reasonable

I do like the weather app called Windy
The "fresh snow" page: if you move the cursor across it it says 5cm around Warwick and 10cm on the Welsh border.

The display at the bottom says I will get around 7cm overnight.
