@robwords.bsky.social I live near a place called Pode Hole, essentially a place built to house fen drainage engines.

"Pode" is said locally to mean "Toad". But I can't find any other instance .

Now I hear the Dutch for Toad is Pad. Can you throw any light on this?

Was listening to a time team podcast audioboom.com/posts/877877... where they talk about the etymology of sherd/shard. Thought you would enjoy it, as an example of language developing.

They do go down an etymology rabbit hole in some episodes. Dr Geake is rather prone.
