I left Twitter in 2018, because I couldn't handle it anymore. But I've been told it's nice here, so I'm popping my head above the parapet. I'm Jen(na), a feminist, cat-mum, and aunt to 10 humans. I love books, films, music and the coast. I'm a spoonie but, tbh, my spoons have abandoned me.
@iammilliam.bsky.social saw this little collection of Brookner books whilst charity shop mooching, and it made made me think of you. I hope you're doing well and the current hellscape isn't getting to you too much. J

Spent the last few days petsitting little Mabel the #cavapoo, while her mums are off having fun. She's bloody adorable, a little mischievous, and is only feeding my deep want of a dog of my own.

As I get ready to decorate my bedroom, I'm moving all my books to a storage unit and have an uncomfortable feeling clawing at me. Do I have too many books? Is it possible? (So far, I've only found duplicates of two books)

We seem to have established a jigsawing tradition in the office. There's one going all the time on the meeting table and we each add a few pieces on breaks/at lunch. It's incredibly nice. Highly recommended.

Feeling strangely melancholy finished Samantha Harvey's Orbital. Strange, compelling little book. Anyhoo, I'm sure reading about the Clearances of 19th Century Scotland (Clear, Carys Davies) will cheer me right up.

The Emperor
In his high heels
And ermine robes
Presiding over his army of rats
Can wave his sceptre
All he likes
But still the winds howl
And the waters rise
And still we, his enemies,
Dance our outlawed dances
And sing our outlawed songs
Resistance at the root of all joy

One thing that I've really missed over the last few years is actually chuckling as I scroll through social media (as opposed to wanting to year my hair out). This evening, I've laughed aloud a couple of times at some top-quality posts. It's almost like Twitter used to be. I'd forgotten.

A few months ago, I had a healthcare professional tell me that I need to 'cultivate a practice to access [my] happy hormones'. One thing I do is lie down on my bed, having been out all day, to allow this Chonk to climb up for a purr-filled cuddle. Ten mins and we're both a bit happier than before.

I've never read an Elena Ferrante and have heard so many good things about her. Thought I'd give her a go and now I'm struggling through her debut novel. It's dark, unpleasant, weird and unsettling. I've got to the point that I'm loath to pick it up but I do *not* DNF books.

I treated myself to a New Yorker desk calendar in the sales last month (bc I'm a bit pretentious, apparently). Anyway, I am very much a fan of today's cartoon. #introvertedorantisocial

My banned books club just read Maus (it was chosen last summer, we didn't know how pertinent it would be reading it in Jan). Honestly one of the very best things I have ever read. Profoundly moving and surprisingly meta, it's something *everyone* should read.

I seem to have built up a few Audible credits. Any recommendations for me? I like literary fiction, classics, and good speculative fiction. Also, love a good narrator (I could listen to Juliet Stevenson read the phone book). Pleaseandthankyou.

Worked from home today, and that meant working in my pyjamas until lunchtime, lots of cat cuddles with Meggie McGee, and an amazing lunch-hour nap, which made me more productive this pm. I prefer working in the office but the occasional WFH day is good for the soul.

This month's book club read was *a lot* of fun, and I'm grateful to have been swept away into this world in the couple of weeks that the world went mad. Already bought more DuMaurier to read.
