Our little girl-dog Isla is not sure how she feels about this year's Yule tree! Maybe she'll like it better when the ornaments go on.

Yule lights are up. Today is sort-through-decorations-day and see where we can put it all. And then ... the wrapping begins! It's a little early - we usually don't start till it's actually December - but this year, we need the cheer now, right?

is a bit still in post-Thanksgiving dinner stupor. Enjoying it!

Thanksgiving was a small feast, but it filled our table and our hearts. We miss our Tucson friends, but 50 years of memories crowded our table and our thoughts. We are content. Cold and wet - not inside, but we go out with the dogs, right? - but content. Especially when the dogs pee quickly. ;-)

hopes you have a good day. Don't hurt yourself trying to make it perfect. Hum your favorite tunes.

I am thankful for nourishing rain, the inspiring chill of winter air, my family being safe, and the draft of this year's novel being done and resting like the turkey does before we carve it. Also thankful - for all our sakes - that Husband-man cooks, because I don't.

We enjoyed this beautiful sunrise today, so bright it shined up the roof of our truck! I might have to do my errands this morning instead of this afternoon, though, because it's gonna rain this afternoon, and rainy is the best writing weather.
November 25, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Sunrises here are really pretty! This was yesterday; today, it's overcast, but the clouds are bright. It'll be a good day to run some errands and start at least one new story. (WIP is "Side Quests in Ancennia," a spin-off anthology from "Mere Mortals' Magic.")

I'm letting the first draft of "The Lost Tanist" rest; I have other writing projects to tend before I edit this year's novel. And, um, yeah, there's Thanksgiving, and then Yule to decorate for. (I do not start a year's novel before November 1st, and I don't decorate for Yule before Thanksgiving.)
November 23, 2025 at 3:13 PM
has finished the first draft of this year's novel, "The Lost Tanist." Made it to the NaNo 50K on the 15th, and got to the end of the story yesterday at 65,879. I'll let it rest a while and the start editing. Wish me luck!
November 22, 2025 at 4:09 PM
I'm once again determined to finish the first draft of "The Lost Tanist" today. There's nothing else on the schedule to distract me, so ....🤞
November 21, 2025 at 2:54 PM
I didn't sleep last night ... because I was working out how to end "The Lost Tanist" and fit in the new sub-plot one of the characters threw at me. Who needs sleep anyway? I can sleep when I finish the draft. ;-)
November 20, 2025 at 4:44 PM
I'll have to do a little more research, and then tuck in some foreshadows, but I may have solved the problem a character in my WIP gave me. :-)

dreamed about meeting some people I thought could be friends, but I had to ask them to leave. They asked why. I said, "Because you're white supremacists." They said "Nobody seems to want us around." I woke up to news about ICE arrests intensifying here. That's right: nobody wants you around anymore!
November 18, 2025 at 3:39 PM
is enjoying a few writing meetings by Zoom. Great for getting the day started. Willamette Writers, for instance, rocks!
November 17, 2025 at 5:47 PM
loves fog. Can't get a decent picture of it, but gosh, it filled the neighborhood this morning, and was even in our back yard. It makes me smile and think it's gonna be a great day!
November 16, 2025 at 3:29 PM
I'm still working on "The Lost Tanist." I hope to reach my 52K word goal this weekend. Whether that will finish the story or not is something else again.
November 15, 2025 at 2:24 PM
It's been a busy week. I had three meetings Weds, one yesterday, and one's coming up today. Still managed a few thousand words on the new novel, though - and hope to finish the first draft over the weekend. Oh, and this is Oregon, so it's gonna rain. 😉
November 14, 2025 at 2:23 PM
I didn't write yesterday, but I will today. (I had meetings, and had to drive on freeways.) And here's a pic of Portland on fire - with fall color.
November 13, 2025 at 4:49 PM
A busy schedule will keep me from writing today, but yesterday, one of the secondary characters in "The Lost Tanist" gave me several hundred words of his backstory, and took care of some troublesome other characters for me. Thanks, Beithir Dubh.

figured out this morning - mostly - how to end the novel she's working on. Events leading up to the final chapter may involve a tap-dancing Highland bullock.
November 11, 2025 at 2:45 PM
A moment away from focus on writing: I'm hearing that the Shutdown isn't over, but has been moved forward to a vote, and that it's not betrayal, it's strategy. I guess we'll see. (Yeah, I vented yesterday to, but I'm back to steadfast and hopeful now.)
November 10, 2025 at 2:44 PM
Our truck has been called to the dealers office to explain its irresponsible decision not to start the other day (Husband-man trickle charged it), but I get to stay home and write. I'm at 33K on my way to 50K (and beyond).
November 10, 2025 at 2:42 PM
I'm continuing to work on this year's NaNo2.0 novel. Interesting to see so many Highland cattle in my feed when "The Lost Tanist" is about the heir of a Scottish clan turned into a Highland bullock ....

Quirky is an original anthology of eleven stories and seventeen poems of varying length and mood. They're quick to read, and offer respite from the press of everyday life ... or maybe immersion in it.
