FUN FACT: We have the only dedicated feminist center of any museum in the United States.

Our Center for Feminist Art has been the permanent home for Judy Chicago’s beloved and pioneering installation “The Dinner Party” since 2007. (5/8)

Today, we remain one of the largest art museums in the country (second largest in NYC) with more than 140,000 objects representing over 6,000 years of history in a 560,000 square-foot building. (4/8)

Our name isn’t the only thing that has been updated over the years. This is the original, neoclassical vision for the building—originally conceived by architectural firm McKim, Mead & White in 1893. (3/8)

Our history starts 200 years ago with the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library—Brooklyn’s first public circulating library—which would evolve into the Brooklyn Institute, the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, then the Brooklyn Museum. (2/8)
