Frankly, I've not stopped masking.

I see vulnerable people all day. It's the gig.

Secondly, I cannot afford to lose 2 weeks to illness, let alone, Long C-19... I have bills and staff.

It's not merely about respect for my patients, that primary, but YEP! It's financial too‼️

Illustrating my theory that the most dangerous activities are the ones that are the most expensive and difficult to cancel if you get sick. Concerts, vacations…they won’t hesitate to put others at risk. And they don’t want others to know they’re sick, so they won’t mask!
A woman I know and her boyfriend booked a travel to Vienna. The day before taking a bus to Barcelona to take a plane to Vienna, he started with flu symptoms, diarrhea, coughing, aches, and with 39C (102F) fever they took the bus. A day later, both had high fever, in a bnb apartment in Vienna.

Our children DO NOT need to get sick to get stronger.

We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

We shouldn’t have to debate who “deserves” food, healthcare and housing.

We should be angry that these things aren’t guaranteed to everyone.

We should be outraged that the wealthy & corporations continue to profit off the misery and suffering of others.

Why the “immunity debt” narrative ultimately collapsed:

Over the past few months, the conversation has moved toward the conclusion the evidence has been pointing to for years.

Since 2022, immunity debt offered an easy explanation for the unusual patterns of illness we kept seeing.

These changes put patients at risk and I hope they don’t pass. Training is required to diagnose and treat mental illness and it’s absurd to cut that - one reason they hope it’ll pass is that mental illness is often not taken as seriously as physical illness but it should be.

Societal health is a pipe dream.

Society expects me to stay healthy in order to be a contributing member, but society does NEXT TO NOTHING to help ensure I stay healthy.

Almost 50% of my students are all sick now.
So, do teachers become obsolete if all kids are sick?

It's also time to stop using the naturopathic term "natural immunity" and replace it with "disease-acquired immunity" to emphasise all of its disadvantages.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

Not one fucking word from any quoted health expert on cleaning classroom air.

Yes, talk about vaccines, ofc that's important.

But there's something else we could talk about here: a measure that protects everyone but doesn't trigger endless debates on the choice to vaccinate.

Clean classroom air!

Important thread applicable to schools and buses everywhere ⬇️

Indoor air quality sucks and it is so important that we fix this, especially now that public health has stuck us with Forever Covid. Kids and their families deserve a lot better.
Have you ever wondered how ventilated a bus on your morning commute is? Or how well ventilated children's classrooms are?

Thanks to the teacher who shared this data with us from their morning commute and first class of the morning, we can see how poorly ventilated these spaces are in Ireland.

Thank you for writing about classroom air!

All reporting on airborne illnesses in kids should include a discussion about infection control in schools.

And any breaking news on pediatic outbreaks should prompt immediate questions about classroom air quality!
I wrote about this for the narwhal. I’m glad you are asking this question. It should be a feature of how we discuss kids illness.
