Thrilled to see that my most recent article has been published.

Using Gorman's inaugural poem as a case study, this article explores to what extent the concentration of culture- & subculture specific elements within a text, along with their aesthetic realisation, poses a challenge for translators.

Delighted to receive my copy of #Metzler's compendium of the #German #CampusNovel by Helmut Grugger & Stefan Neuhaus. It includes not only three chapters by yours truly but also by my cherished #MICcolleagues @deirdreflynn.bsky.social, Sabine Egger, Hanna Rompf & -of course- Helmut himself.

Just back from a very cool lunchbreak listening to #NASAAstronaut Dan Tani talking about how he became an astronaut, what's living in space like, and what's happening next in space exploration. #SpaceWeek #MIC

Thrilled to share that my article on the challenges of translating #AmandaGorman’s inaugural poem #TheHillWeClimb has just been published!

This first piece in a planned series of articles takes a decidedly linguistic lens, examining semantic-stylistic shifts in translation.

Back from an exciting and inspiring week in Tbilisi & at #TbilisiStateUniversity, where I met wonderful colleagues. Special thanks to Dr Iwa Mindadze, who took me to the former German settlements #Bolnisi (Katharinenfeld) & #Asureti (Elisabethtal). I learned a ton about the German-Georgian ties.

My paper is entitled "Translating Gorman’s 'Black Girl Magic': Aesthetics, Politics, and Ethics in the Translation of a Viral Inaugural Performance". By reflecting on the aesthetic, political, and ethical dimensions, it aims to inspire a debate on the translation process. 2/

Yesterday, I had the immense pleasure to witness how the #RoyalIrishAcademy awarded my mentor, Prof. Anne Fuchs, the 2025 Gold Medal in the Humanities. The country's highest academic honor. In her speech, Anne delivered a passionate & pointed reflection on the role of the #humanities in our society.

Oh, since some of my #MIC students were wondering this week, I obviously also love doing non-language and literature-related things. Like e.g. attending an #artclass at #LCFE where I mostly work with #acrylics. Simply love the physicality, creativity and the community.

Bonjour depuis #Valenciennes où je vais discuter aujourd'hui de tout ce qui touche à la traduction (sémantique, pragmatique, esthétique et éthique) avec les étudiants locaux de licence et de master. J'en suis ravie!

It's also the inaugural visit of our brand new #institutionalpartnership.

As the year is slowly but steadily coming to an end, it's time to reflect on this year's New Year's Resolution re my #WorkLifeBalance. So, this year saw me return to painting. The #LCFE & #JimFurlong provided wonderful space to be creative & meet people. Looking forward to the follow-up painting 🎨

The #DutchGovernment is pursuing punishing cuts to the Higher Ed budget, crippling research & teaching and affecting the well-being of the economy and civil society. I've spent some inspiring years at the #RijksuniversiteitGroningen & defended my PhD in the Academie Gebouw almost 9 years ago. 1/

Today, I had the pleasure to attend the opening of the "Landings" exhibition at the UCD Humanities Institute.

The exhibition displays the artistic responses to former mining sites in IRE, EE, and SA that were part of a research project on Post-Extractivist Legacies & Landscapes.

Wonderful and inspiring day at the "Creative (Hi)Stories of Migration" workshop at the #IrishCentreforTransnationalStudies at #MIC with academics & artists speaking about collaborative projects btw the humanities and creative arts.
We were also treated to some music snippets and live performances.

As the semestre comes slowly but steadily to its end (with only a few assignments left to mark), I'm turning my eyes to the article commitments I've made.

Kicking off with one on translational challenges and cultural mistranslations of #AmandaGormans inaugural poem. #CloseReading #LevelOne

I'll be speaking about Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem *The Hill We Climb* later this afternoon.

I already had the pleasure to give a guest lecture to local students of geography and history on the definition of Europe.
