Optimist with a slight northern side and soft spot for Wales, parkrun and cats. Often found in an independent bookshop.
What people post on social media versus the reality of life. See alt text.

Popped into the first birthday of the local independent bookshop for one drink, stayed for the night. Tunbridge Wells we are lucky to have such lovely people in our town. And yes these are terrible photos.

Pomegranate, orange and baby spinach salad to accompany a fish finger sandwich. Because I’m classy*

*and definitely not because half a bag of spinach, one orange and a random pomegranate were the only fresh fruit or veg in the house.

Have I mentioned how much I love the writing of Kim Stanley Robinson?
I learn so much as I read his books, which are also unputdownable *and* contain an interesting scattering of words that have me reaching for the dictionary.

Got a bit wet.

Bruges day two. A little tired. Dark hot chocolate.

Day one update 😬

Belgium. Day one.
The beer is good. (As is the wine and gin and alcoholic coffee 😬.)

Finished reading Wasteland by @olifranklinwallis.bsky.social.
It’s excellently researched, beautifully written and very informative. It’s taken me a while because at times the topic was as bleak as you’d expect, but I am so glad I read it.
I feel better able to make my own small difference.

Oh dear, Bluesky is about to enter into a battle of wills with me.
I don’t want to verify my age, which means I can’t access chat. However people can apparently still send me DMs.
Unread notifications are an irritant but I think I’m going to have to get used to them.

How’s this for a fancy teabag? Discovered in Caccia & Tails, Lewes. It was a good cuppa. #TeaUp

This morning @twpeople.bsky.social had a beautiful visitor @rtwparkrun.bsky.social.

Morning, I have a question for the cat slaves:
What is either (one or all of):
• The smelliest cat food you know?
• The soupiest?
• The stuff with the smallest pieces of meat?
It must be “complete” too please.
Asking for Dolly. Thank you.
#cat

Dolly is currently trying to decide whether to swipe at me in demand for a different dinner, or to curl up and go to sleep.
She’s mostly okay but every now and then (ie tonight) decides she really doesn’t like the kidney medicine on her dinner and demands something else instead.

Front row Proms seats! 🥳

Hello, old friend.
August 20, 2025 at 8:01 PM
I really, really want to walk up this hill in the dark.

Look @hunsletthebear.bsky.social! We’re catching up with one of Millsie’s cousins at Fika cafe in Edinburgh. They have an excellent offering of cakes, especially those containing pistachios so The Boy is happy. You may be pleased to know we got the train here too.

I’ve fallen in love with the language in my current read, Little, Big by John Crowley. For example:

Very much enjoyed this afternoon’s @bennettarron.bsky.social Edinburgh Fringe show, I regret this already.
Warm, honest humour that tackled some very moving topics.

Proms tonight. We were terrifyingly high up and could only see part of the orchestra, but we had a great view of the centralised percussion during the second half.
Those who only stayed for the first half missed out on a treat.

Starting the day by impressing The Boy with my knowledge of snail teeth. Have I peaked too soon?

Look what’s arrived c/o my local indie bookshop. I can’t remember all the people who recommended it, and I’ve already forgotten the synopsis, but I can remember I ordered it because @jamesbluecat.bsky.social posted something about long sentences.

After many months of work, @rbt.org.uk held the launch event to display the newly restored Short Scion Floatplane inside @rochestercathedral.bsky.social. We made it live onto the local BBC news and I can hold my head up high about the success of my final communications project for the Trust.
August 1, 2025 at 8:52 AM
I’m a bit late for a #TeaUp but this was my short break at around 2pm today, partway through a fun day of media wrangling and floatplane admiring in @rochestercathedral.bsky.social.
I’m very impressed with the ethical choice of tea.
And the accompanying sandwich was immense, too big for the camera.
