I got a ridiculous deal on some Rowan cashmere haze a couple of years ago (Alpaca, Cashmere, Bombyx) and ended up with an enormous squishy thing that is almost too warm to wear except in the dead of winter.

This top-down poncho was knitted in one piece as an exercise in discovering just how many stitches I could personally bear to cram onto a single circular needle. No pattern - I just made it up as I went along.

That Purl Soho pattern is fantastic. I've done a couple of them for my DH and he wears them 24/7 during the winter.

A few years back, I bought a ridiculous amount of this sage green yarn on e-bay. I didn't follow a pattern, just kind of cabled as the mood struck. The poncho is almost too heavy to wear, and I still have a ridiculous amount of this sage green yarn.
