Flaneur and observer of the urban condition. Professional urban designer, but I don’t post much about the subject as a lot is said more eloquently by others. Scale models, mountain bike rides, gardening.
Some scratch building to make up for the missing parts as the kits came with 6 of sprue B, and 0 of sprue A. Wheels were pre assembled by the late Mr Wheatley.

Also scratching in a million tiny pilot holes so I can locate the billions of tiny tie down points.

Had to cobble together a roof from the selection.

I found a bonus aftermarket PE kit for the M113 amongst the winnings from the auction, so I decided to take off most of the surface detail. PE hell awaits.

How it started vs how it’s going.

The previous owner of these M113s hulls was in the process of creating some kind of extended Israeli version.

I’m more inclined to build them as Canadian vehicles so it’s off to the chop shop for a bit of scale model stress relief.

Brown bottles brought to you via colour theory.

Additionally: There is no stronger force in the universe than the force that binds Tamiya clear colour lids to the bottles.

The strangest product available to scale model makers. Other than turning gloss paints flat I’m still figuring out what to do with it.

Added some graffiti of my own to the local cafe bathroom.

Gen Z types might find it triggering.

Ive been working on ways to keep flat things flat and glossy things glossy.

And dirty things dirty and clean things clean.

I think I’m out even though I do have this enticing auction find.

A pre started kit bash of no less than 4 different kits.

I think the fellow was planning on building an Israeli Sherman.

Current status of the C130.

Sitting here with another coat of Tamiya Mark-Fit on the decals. All the decal solution to get them to lay over the raised panel lines.

Clear coat tonight to seal them in: set or not.

Then an attempt at panel lines and weathering.

The fellow had some ideas that’s for sure.

I think someone out there might be missing a Bradley turret, and I think another guy is missing his Academy M113 interior.

Now that’s a shiner. Rural Alberta style.

The auction haul.

These are some of the mystery kits with so many surprises. Loads of extra parts stuffed in the boxes.

Unfortunately some of the mystery kits were already started including some questionable modifications; but still worth the money.

New technique alert! (At least to me)

Dab on some slightly diluted matte medium and sprinkle in your rust pigments before chipping. Creates that bubbly paint kind of rust.

Progress on the ZIL.

Needed to take out some of my mad painting styles before I get back to the C130 for #heaviesGB

Vallejo “Smoke Ink” is a very useful colour for creating the appearance of engine oil and grime.

Went crazy at the scale model auction.

A fine fellow passed away and left his estate with hundreds of scale models to deal with. (I suppose that is the eventual fate of all of us. Build em if you got em!)

Pick up on Wednesday and I expect a few surprises.

Many models hidden amongst the mess.

Some progress on the ZIL.

Chipped using the airbrush as a pressure washer and a bit of a scrub with a moderately stiff brush. Added a tiny bit of IPA to the airbrush water to soften the paint.

Then I applied a whack of pigments and a matte medium fix.

Scale model dry fit madness.

Trying something new.

Dry-brushed steel over the rust colour before chipping. Hope to create the rubbed steel look on the high spots.

Might work. Might not.

This is the old Trumpeter 1/35 ZIL finished with Tamiya LP base and AK “Steel” dry brush.

Game time decal application on the C130.

Bit of progress on the C130 for #heaviesGB

Couldn’t decide if I wanted to go through the trouble to paint in the thin black lines on the wings but I’m glad I did. Adds a bit of interest.

Decals next.

Between bouts of frustration on the C130 for #heaviesGB I’ve been working on this Soviet divisional gun by Trumpeter. Now needs some rusty washes and lots of Vietnam red dust.

I’m thinking of somehow working it in to a diorama with the M151A1 that I previously built.
