I've realised my conference limit is 2 full days. My brain is at capacity. But social events definitely help.

This weekend, I am taking a break from my PhD including Friday. Feeling much more refreshed. More rest more often.

Today near brought me to tears.

Almost a year of PhD work troubleshooting a singular error, and I feel incompetent. Every time I think I've solved it, it comes back. I don't know when to just throw in the towel...

Alas, this year my abstract was rejected ❌ for an amazing international conference.

BUT still happy to try again next year. Onwards and upwards.

And with that, ethics approval for the final PhD study has been obtained.

A truly grueling process with stringent frameworks for AI related research now 🥲

Today, I spent 8 hours straight on an MRI IO error that I have been unable to crack for months. Maybe 100 hours on this tiny “simple” error.

Just in case you think social media is only for highlights, nope. Today sucked. PhD feels impossible. I need to decompress.

I went into hibernation for the past year trying to get my first PhD paper out. Blessed and can’t wait to publish our latest model open-source!

Thoughts on personal websites (not just a CV page) and blogs for academics?

Perhaps field-dependent, but I think they’re excellent ways of showcasing communication and potentially technical skills.

What’s a simple writing tip that would improve every paper?

E.g., consistency of terms is more important than making writing engaging with synonyms. Ditch the synonyms.

I genuinely prefer basic/discovery research over clinical research and champion it. Sue me (but also, please don’t. I need grant money)

As academics, why do we say “yes”to helping others with data analysis… EVERY SINGLE TIME? Is it productive procrastination?

Any advice to objectively look at this? #PhDSky
