They don't have to drop it (although they should considering the insane P/E)-- but Vanguard's Tesla position is disproportionately large compared to other index funds (except Blackrock). Those two funds combined own more of Tesla than Elon Musk does.

There is no TIAA-CREF Index fund to be found within the top 20 funds in terms of Tesla holdings. Four of the top 10 are Vanguard. With P/E of 100-200 I don't see a how a responsible fund manager can have such a strong Tesla position!

Yes! Individual investors do have a voice in these matters and seldom use it.

The funds with the largest Tesla holdings are Vanguard's Total Stock Market Index Investment (2.67%) and Vanguard's Institutional 500 Index fund (2.39%). The fund with the third largest Tesla position is the Fidelity 500 Index with 1.08%. Yes, these are index funds but Vanguard is Tesla-heavy
