Mary Chapin Carpenter is, for me, in the front rank of American songwriters of the last 50 years.

When the film opened in Liverpool a local butcher displayed a sign, "You've read the book, you've seen the film - now eat the cast!"

🤦🏻‍♂️

Agree absolutely. Nobody miscast, fine performances all round but Mathew Macfadyen is outstanding in a role which could so easily have been overplayed. A terrific drama.

If you could only keep one track of theirs . . . This one is peak Yes. Sublime. 👍🏻

What a trilogy! Such accomplished films with the last being my No.1 all time favourite. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I think in life we set our own standards. Most of us try to live decent lives without hurting anyone but any slip is noticed and is felt as more shocking. However, if you're a soulless, vacuum of a human being, remarks like this barely register. "Yeah, he always does stuff like that". We all shrug.

They passed over us a short while ago. I recognise the one third from the left. 👍🏻😁

Apart from "Edmund Fitzgerald" and the hits, I also love the superb "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" and the whole of his "Summertime Dream" album. Despite his fame, I always felt he was underappreciated.

"Are You Going With Me?" by the Pat Metheny Group.

I agree. Jack Teagarden was always a favourite of mine and it's impossible to overstate the role of Louis Armstrong in influencing practically the entire 20th century. But there are so many other brilliant recordings. The sheer exuberance of the music is infectious. Enjoy!

It's easy to forget that jazz was originally just dance music. The great Clive James noted that Charlie Parker etc had turned it from a joyous outburst into "a tortured brain puzzle". I get that view and, although I love the later jazz, the 20s/30s music is, as you say, irresistible. Wonderful. 👍🏻

I bought it on release. It's a strong album with everything you expect from Mr Young but the album artwork reeks of "yeah, that'll do".

The "Hobo's Lullaby" LP in the summer of 1972 . . . my adolescence in vinyl form. 👍🏻

Ah, ok. 👍🏻

If that's Saint-Benoit-Du-Sault I know it well as we're 10 minutes away. The old town is a delight.

A stylish, elegant and compassionate film with excellent performances from the two leads.

Excellent! I've always held this as a truly great record. The lyrics would stand alone as a poem and Andy Williams (of whom I was never really a fan) delivers it with absolute sincerity. An under-the-radar treasure. Thanks! 👍🏻

An admirer of his playing all my life but I can't entirely overlook his views/attitudes on race and vaccines etc. I'm conflicted, despite having other musical heroes I also wouldn't have as houseguests. Having said that, his "Just One Night" concert album is superb. See what I mean?

It was an 'X' certificate on its UK release, meaning 18 only. I got in at age 15 but only to hear the S&G soundtrack. A superb film. I believe the leg in the poster photo actually belonged to Linda Gray, later to play Sue Ellen in 'Dallas'.

Still a favourite of his albums. Imaginative, funky and full-on. Great songwriting points to what would follow. A superb record. 👍🏻

I agree, I always loved this one. 👍🏻

One of the finest singer/songwriters of the last 50 years. She has a superb body of work but this album plus "Stones In The Road" are just flawless.
