sorry, i left an important part implicit: once you've split `w` into two new vectors, you then continue your stochastic gradient descent. as long as you trust that initial `w`, it's a good way to initialize a now-larger network.

i have never tried to build it, because google had a push-button autosearcher that would spend a day finding a good feed-forward architecture for your particular dataset. but if i *did* need to grow a deep net, this would be how i did.
