Prepping to do a modern dance show. Load in yesterday, work and rehearsal today, show and load out tonight. Relatively easy couple days for me, more work for my colleagues.
Light yellow and yellow ochre theater proscenium. Above it is a light blue half dome with white clouds painted on it. In addition there are several female appearing figures in various multi colored robes. On the stage is a black dance floor with a smaller gold dance floor on top of it. The stage left, stage right, and upstage are masked with black velour drops/drapes to create a black box. Above the stage on horizontal pipes are several dozen chrome and black theatrical lighting fixtures. There is haze to catch the light beams.

Two more of the dahlias my wife grew this year. The first, Bloomquist Mildred, has been a solid performer, but has really perked up with the weather shift. The second, Cornell Bronze, just started blooming in the past week or so.
In the top left corner is a dahlia with pink, frilly petals. There color is less saturated at the tips and become a deeper pink towards the center. In the center is a ring of yellow. There are an additional six blooms in the picture ad well as a lot of green foliage. In the bottom of the picture a bit of dead grass. An orange dahlia bloom seen slightly from the side. The center is a deep orange and the outer rings of petals are slightly less saturated. The bloom is surrounded by green leafy foliage on the right and green and dark red foliage on the left.

My new favorite dahlia in our yard - Rip City.
A dahlia flower. The outer petals are red and the petals in each circle moving in towards the center are a darker red than the previous one. There is a plentiful amount of green foliage behind the flower. Further in the background is a bleached wooden fence.

Today’s adventures on our long weekend trip. Because we’re nerds if nothing else.
A blue and gold metal plaque on a column of narrow yellow brick. The plaque is at the Darwin D. Martin House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The purpose of the plaque is to denote that the house is on the National Register of Historic Places. A large grey stone column. On the top left corner is a National Park Service symbol. In black letters it says Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site. Below that it says Entrance. In blue lettering below that it says Bank of America ATM with the Bank of America logo.

My two favorite dahlias from our yard this year. I don’t know the name of the first, but the second is Benjamin Matthew. I have no part in their care other than the occasional watering, my wife is otherwise responsible for their well being.
Several dahlia blooms with foliage around and behind them. One bloom is noticeably darker than the others - mostly a deep magenta with lighter purple edges. The others are light purple at the ends of the petals fading to a pale yellow towards the middle. In the center it’s a darker yellow. Four dahlia blooms with green foliage surrounding them as well as dead grass. The two fully visible flowers have hot pink petals in the center of the flower with lighter pink petals around those. The outermost petals are yellow tipped pink.

Black, white, and light blue dragonfly. The ends of its wings are almost clear. It is attached to a brown plant stem. Out of focus foliage is behind it.

Trio of Willets walking in shallow ocean water. They are on the small side and are speckled grayish/brownish. They have long black beaks. The ocean water appears gray with white specks. American Oystercatcher - pinkish feet and legs with a silver metal band near the bird's left foot and dark yellow bands with black lettering (A58). Mottled white and gray breast. Gray wings and tail with black tips on the tail feathers. Black head with an orangish-red beak. The bird's eye has a red outer ring, yellow inner ring, and black center.

It's been fun playing around with different lenses and settings as my wife's flowers bloom. These were from last Saturday.

Even though it says “GAYETY,” it used to say “ASBESTOS.” Also, signed by the artist just over 114 years ago.

First day on the sand for beach vacation 2025. First book of this year’s reading is a reread.

This morning’s blueberry harvest. There were a few more, but I gave those and this morning’s smaller raspberry haul to a neighbor walking in the alley with his toddler daughter.

Just gave the yellow lab a bath because we’re going to have an overnight guest and other visitors in town for my mother’s viewing this weekend. He was less than enthused.

This is the fire curtain, equally as beautiful.
