The neoliberal dream of fossil fuel billionaire Charles Koch was always the destruction of US democracy and the elimination of government (except for its repressive organs police, courts, prisons, military ofc), and now he has won.

My excellent brilliant partner, Lorana Bartels, writes today that mandatory minimum sentences are bad policy.

Applying this bad policy to the real problem of antisemitism and other hate crimes is particularly ironically stupid, as it undermines the rule of law.

This shit will only make shit worse.
Mandatory minimum sentencing is proven to be bad policy. It won’t stop hate crimes
Extensive evidence shows the government’s plan to legislate mandatory minimum sentences for hate crimes, including antisemitic acts, won’t be effective. Here’s why.

Think the past will protect Australia from Trump’s future? Think again
One of the very few things about our relationship with the US that actually makes us safer is collapsing in real time. We need answers, and quickly.

Wow—Global CO2 levels have increased by a full 1% (+4.3 ppm) in just one year! For perspective, we were at 400 in just late 2014… we gained +22ppm in 10 years 2014-2024, but added +4.3 in just one year! (Most of Earth for past 800k years, CO2 was just 200-300 ppm)

If Australia wants to host a COP, it needs to be serious about cutting emissions from coal and gas.

Continuing to open new gas and coal mines is undermining our credibility, and causing irreversible harm to the planet.

Stephen Long writes in the New Daily.

Australia must earn the right to host climate conference
The gas industry and its friends in politics like to claim that their fossil fuel is less climate-polluting than coal.
