Are we having an election night thread?

Obviously there'll be lots of them, but I'm happy to host one too like we did on twitter last time

Should we use the #BinNight hashie? People have said in a previous post (when I asked) they think it works well as a bat signal

96% of Australians want more done to protect nature. Meanwhile, just 0.06% of the budget went to on-ground biodiversity programs.

We’re losing species we love & major parties are sleepwalking through it.

Australians care. It’s time politicians did too.

Australia is in an extinction crisis – why isn’t it an issue at this election?
Some of the country’s most loved native species, including the koala and the hairy-nosed wombat, are on the brink. Is this their last chance at survival?

Very key point made here. Any "shortage" is due solely to exports. We don't need more gas, we need to send less to Japan which has so much it exports our gas to other countries!

(also worth charging the companies to mine our gas and also to tax them properly)

www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...
Forget more gas supply, expert argues. Stop exporting so much
Among the many crises facing the nation in recent years, the east coast gas shortage has been among the most divisive from a political, economic and social perspective.

Australia has the second lowest age pension in the OECD, and the 5th highest level of retirees living in poverty.

And all the while we give the richest 10% $20bn in tax breaks for their superannuation.

My column.

Misleading fear campaigns may kill Labor’s superannuation changes. But here are the real numbers | Greg Jericho
Increasing the tax rate on superannuation balances above $3m would affect less than 1% of the population – and yet it is still unlikely to pass

Let us ensure that history does not remember this era as the time when leaders acted like dogs, but as the time when people stood up, fought back, and reclaimed their power. #auspol
When leaders act like dogs: A time without shame - Pearls and Irritations
The phrase, "there will come a time where there is no shame, and leaders will act like dogs" has its roots in various traditions, including ancient wisdom and cultural proverbs, often warning of societal decay when leaders abandon virtue, integrity, and accountability.

Niki Savva cuts to the chase. One of the very few Canberra journalists worth reading.
If Albanese wins the next election he should celebrate, then step aside
If Anthony Albanese loses next year, which once seemed improbable and now looks possible, he will shoulder much of the blame and his legacy will be trashed.

Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day.
The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.
