Breakthru brings breaks back to the workday. With 2-min breaks inside Microsoft Teams, you never have to forget to take the breaks you need. And, you can share them with others to make taking a break a team activity

It’s also in our teams. When our colleagues and leaders neglect to take breaks, we feel that we must do the same. But, when colleagues take breaks together, and when we see our leaders do the same, we know they’re an important part of the workday.

Part of it is in the very fabric of our workday. Naturally occurring microbreaks have faded, replaced by virtual meetings or a quick ping on Teams. Remote work has exacerbated this. When our homes double as our offices, the lines between personal time and work time can blur.

So, if we know microbreaks make us more effective, what’s stopping us from building them into the rhythm of the workday?

It's important to remember that timing is of the essence. When breaks are too long delayed, it’s difficult for us to return to our baseline of energy, focus, and mood. It’s important to listen when your brain and body ask for a break.

"Movement microbreaks throughout the day lower levels of burnout and exhaustion, and boost overall life satisfaction"

It's science:
"Movement microbreaks have been shown to improve cognitive performance, working memory, executive functions, information processing, reaction times, and self-efficacy."

Taking regular microbreaks throughout the day keeps our energy, focus, and morale high. They prevent strain and fatigue from accumulating, and protect us from burnout.

And yet, we push through when we should pull back. We mischaracterize breaks as unproductive or time wasted, when really, they're one of the best tools we have.

Throughout the workday, we’re faced with demands and challenges that chip away at our energy and focus. The brain has finite capacities for sustained attention and cognitive exertion; we can’t work continuously without eventually hitting empty.
