Start small so you can make mistakes and learn as you go. At least, that's what I would do.

You should! But yeah, first step is make a plan for what you want to accomplish. 2nd is to find a venue that meets your needs where you won't lose a tone of money. 3rd is to set wheels in motion to get buy in from GMs and vendors. And 4th is to set up a platform to schedule crap & sell tickets.

I've been a really active con rep the last 2 years and muddled my way through the back end of TTE last November to run game events at Milwaukee Krampusnacht, but nothing on the scale of 500-1000. Which aspects are you wondering how to tackle?
