Stolen bases per game over 3-year spans. Since 1920 (start of the Live Ball Era), the top 25 spans include all 24 that started from 1974 to 1997…

…and right now, 2023-2025 (so far).

Reliving all-time #Braves moments with ChatGPT:

I asked ChatGPT to draw Atlanta Fulton County Stadium with the Atlanta skyline behind it under a picturesque night sky (I provided a classic daytime photo).

This is what I got: "Baseball Starry Night"

Take 2: Some direction. I uploaded famously online photo of Joe Simpson, Don Sutton, Pete Van Wieren, and Skip Caray and told ChatGPT to keep the Braves on TBS desk but redraw the caricatures based on the photo.

I told ChatGPT to "Draw a caricature of the Atlanta Braves broadcast team of the 1990s on TBS: Skip Caray, Pete Van Wieren, Don Sutton, and Joe Simpson." No other direction. This is the result.

I told ChatGPT to "Draw a caricature of Kent Hrbek lifting Ron Gant off first base." No other direction. This is the result.

Early glance at the upcoming Hall of Fame ballot season and the Baseball Reference probable list of names on the ballot:

Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones will get in.

No one else will come close.

100 Greatest Sports Heroes, published in 1954. I read this cover to cover when I was about 10. Still in remarkably good shape considering it doesn't even know Aaron, Mays, Gibson, Mantle…

How much do you think it's worth?

Reminder, MLB fans: The “quarter pole” means a quarter to go, not a quarter done. Horse racing, not pie charts. “Down the stretch they come!” is for late August, not late May.

If the MLB season ends with today's standings, the Seattle #Mariners would have a Wildcard Round bye and the #Athletics would be playing the Tigers (probably?) for a shot at bringing MLB playoff baseball to the SAC.

Mike Trout's April 1-20, 2025: 13-for-63, 2B, 8 HR, 12 R, 14 RBI in 17 games.

That’s a 162-game pace of 76 home runs.

Don Sutton *or* Greg Maddux (but not both) pitched enough innings to qualify for ERA and other rate stats leaderboards for 43 straight MLB seasons.

Don Sutton’s Major League debut:
4/14/1966

Greg Maddux’s outside the womb debut:
4/14/1966

So, what it actually did was start me on Game 6... but on the current week. So when I got to Game 6 just now, it repeated the same 4 I started with. (And I missed Game 5 again!)

It's holding my longest streak, but I don't think the "broken by" line is correct?
April 14, 2025 at 1:41 PM
So far so good, but it shows 5-1 for current week when I've played only game 1. (I forgot to finish last week after starting 4-1.)

Nolan Ryan pitched 840 innings in his final 5 seasons, ages 42 to 46.

Aaron Nola pitched 850 innings over the last 5 years. No one else has pitched 830. (@stathead.com @baseball-reference.com Pitching Season Finder)

(Ryan's playing time in his final season was roughly analogous to 2020.)
