Fantastic time at the Mick Foley Q and A in Glasgow earlier. Not sure the name of the chap who does these live sessions, but he's very good at them too.

"Oh Capt Mauser, oh wowser wowser" was *poetry* and it happened 40 damn years ago, man.

"Masterpieces" of world cinema I just don't much care for part one...

I wrote a front cover retrospective of The Hills Have Eyes this month. People rag on kids as an excuse for censorship. Literally watched this at age 11 or 12 and turned it off as I knew I was just not old enough to deal with it. We don't give kids enough credit.

What to say? Drew Struzan was a legend. RIP

Two icons I share my birthday with. The guy on the right means more to me than almost anyone I have never met (true story: I was once meant to be his minder at the Cannes Film Fest but we have indeed never met). The other dude just rocked my world as a rental shop kid.

I wouldn't be in the same room as him, personally. But maybe you could hold him to account for his general social media crankery, such as the classic one attached, or (here's a good one) ask him if Assange should have answered to his rape charges.

Back in 2019 I curated extra content for a banger German edition of Arnold's classic "The Running Man" - one interview I was so proud of getting, in his Italian home, was poster artist Renato Casaro, filmed and interviewed by Eugenio Ercolani. I am so sorry to hear he has passed. A mammoth talent.

I really enjoy getting the chance to pen booklets for physical media labels, and it's been a little while since I have been this productive - four titles announced this month that have my scribble-work!

(Note: this really is not "adult content" whatever Bsky says!!)

Honestly God bless Shout for this amazing 4k restoration. This is one of my fave slasher films. Seen so many times. Pamela Springsteen, Renee Estevez and Valerie Hartman (who should have lived!!!) are freaking legends. Even better than Jeanne Dielman, 23 Commerce Quay, 1080 Brussels 👍

IMO one of the greatsst pieces of cinema ever created. Still can't believe I filmed interviews with some of the crew in Manila when I did a "Philippines as Vietnam" doc for the Born on the 4th of July German Blu. One of the best jobs I ever got!

Rest in Peace Scott Spiegel. You will be missed.

Had a fab time at AEW in Glasgow. That said, not having their biggest star there (MJF obv) felt like a real slap in the face to the Scottish fans. WWE pulled out almost all their big names for their Glasgow show. Also: I have the best students (in the middle) - a fun time had by all 👍

It sure is.

Now go away and take your own advice. Read some books.

Leni Riefenstahl was a Nazi. Her work, no matter how well filmed, romanticised an abhorrent regime, her story is one of being in awe of thugs in boots. I utterly deplore any mention of her without this being stressed - *in detail* - there is, and cannot be, a seperation of art/artist in this case.

My beloved Uncle Johnstone passed away today. My mum's only sibling. A fixture of my childhood and teenage years, I always still got birthday and Christmas wishes annually. I lost my mum four years ago and this feels like losing another part of her. Death comes to us all but it's so hard to accept.
