Remembering 6893, Cpl Frederick Charles Pryke 2nd Bn, Suffolk Regiment, killed in action 18th June 1915.
Born 5th May 1887 the son of Alfred & Eliza Pryke. Crossed to France on 3rd December 1914.
Frederick has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Crossed to France 6th March 1915. Killed in action on or since 8th May 1915.

Remembering 15260 Private James Leech 1st Suffolk.
Crossed to France on 6th March 1915 and was killed in action on the 5th May 1915, age 24, during the Second Battle of Ypres. He has no known grave and is recorded on the Menin Gate.

An extremely poignant postcard from France from Private Sid Pryke to his daughter Winnie, 6, and son Sidney, 2. Private Pryke's wife had died in 1917 while he was in France - just three days after giving birth to Sidney Jnr.

A great pleasure today to provide the story of 8541, Pte Charles Garrod, 2nd Suffolk, to his grandson. Pte Garrod was captured at Le Cateau on the 26 August 1914. We also helped trace the grandson's father's details - he was also taken PoW in WW2 serving with the Rifle Brigade.

Fortunately, when the spire of our church was re-leaded, pictures were taken of the old graffiti. We are surprised to find this by No 7471, Frederick William Gephart, AIF dated 19/7/1919. What was he doing here in 1919 (apart from scratching his name)?

Our main village memorial was unveiled in 1920 and that of the Edward Packard & Co factory, in 1922. Pandemic restrictions prevented much in the way of marking these centenaries but March this year sees the 100th anniversary of the completion of the other memorial - Bramford Victory Hall
