Chess!
This one is gorgeous from today's game between Aravindh - Aronian in today's Grand Chess Tour. Requires seeing a lot of Black's responses to know the answer but it's a goodie! #chesspunks

Had a blast studying e4 again in a serious way for the first time in over a year. Can you guess White's best move? It was on my radar for a millisecond, but I ended up going for the simple g3 instead #chesspunks

So I think one thing that's important for players under ~1500 isnt just looking at positions where only one move wins, but coming up with a plan when many moves do. In this position from a game of mine, white has a winning advantage for multiple reasons. But what plan would you choose? #chesspunks

White is up a full tempo on a normal kings indian position, but the extra move is Bishop to f4, which turns out to not be so great. How can Black minimize the damage? #chesspunks

White to move, what should you do? #chesspunks

Finally back over 2200 yay!

It looks like Black made a pretty good sacrifice on e4, how can White save their position?

interesting endgame - what is the result after white plays Rc5? What is Black's best move?

Okay took me a few days because I am lazy but this is the results, insanity!

I have a day's worth of recording left and then it's time to edit my next video, things should move pretty fast at that point! It's gonna be a long one!

White appears to be winning here, so Black decides to set up a little trick. What is your instinct here?
December 17, 2024 at 9:52 AM
really cool idea, havent seen it like this before: what happens if Black takes the pawn on a5?
December 16, 2024 at 5:03 AM
Any suggestions as to why I'm unable to generate a repertoire report with Black with my reference database? Yes, it *is* marked as a repertoire, and yes, it does have critical "blue moves" marked too.

so a lot of moves win here, but I thought the move played in the game was really nice! Daeschler - Kwon 2023 (Black to move)
December 15, 2024 at 7:56 PM
After ...e5 14.Be3!? is a cool idea, as the pawn on b2 is poisoned from 15.Qxd8 Rxd8 16.Rab1 Bd4 17.Nc7 and either Black loses an exchange or the Knight on c6 falls. Unfortunately after the accurate 14...Be6 the position will quickly liquidate into equality.
December 12, 2024 at 9:58 AM
The natural 10...e5 may be incorrect, mainly because it offers dynamics in typical catalan style with 11.exd4 exd4 12.Bf4 with the potential of Qa4 and b4 coming quick.
December 12, 2024 at 9:31 AM
Ding could gain an edge in a few ways, I think one of the interesting ones is 7.Nxc6 Nxc6 8.c4! d4 9.e3 playing this funky reverse benoni style position. Play could continue 9...Bc5 10.a3 dxe3 11.fxe3 Qxd1 12.Rxd1 a5. Pretty unnatural looking pawn structure for white!

Yeah I totally get you there, averages are better indicators. I think for me it's been really hard because my jumps have almost never been more than 50-100 point slumps over the course of ~100 games. Heres the graph and what it looks like before this month, ill also quickly go and check my next 100
