For 40k, Orks may be your best bet, I sure love painting them! Age of Sigmar is the fantasy setting, some real fun factions there

There definitely aren't any "good guys" but astra militarum is the human horde that is most sympathetic. Just normal folks caught up in never ending war

I started off with a killteam box, got 2 playable KT's, still working on a bigger 40k army. Kill team is a good way to explore different factions without committing too much money.
