The MAPK phosphorylates Sms1 as a 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗽, to prevent hyperactivation and untimely mating, including after cell-cell fusion:
